All good intentions of keeping this website updated seem to have gone by the wayside as we have been too busy sailing and living life. Poor excuse maybe so perhaps a quick precis would be in order.
“The Dream” became a reality on Monday 18th June 2018 when we purchased our Bavaria 37 Cruiser, Canny Zesty, and having had her serviced, and renewed most vital parts, on Wednesday 11th July we set sail from Chichester to Dartmouth, doing small hops as sea trials, checking new equipment out and calibrating instruments, covering some 153nm. In Dartmouth we provisioned for the crossing of the Bay of Biscay to northern Spain. And at 1430 on Tuesday 21st August 2018 Fil, along with 2 friends, set sail in a great weather window. So pleasant was the weather, and sea state, a great deal of motor sailing was necessary to arrive into La Coruna at 0630 on Saturday 25th August, some 461 nm later.
Linda took the easy option and flew to Santiago de Compostela then, followed by a bus to La Coruna for a 2 week holiday of sightseeing and soaking up the Spanish pace of life and making new lifelong friends, before starting the big adventure. Our aim was to make Portimão in Portugal our winter stopover. So we sailed our way south along the Atlantic coasts of Spain then Portugal, sightseeing along the way at many awesome places, to reach the Algarve resort on Tuesday 2nd October, another 513nm making our total sailing distance 1,127nm for 2018.
What a lovely first winter we spent in warm, sunny Portugal where the people are friendly and welcoming. We certainly looked forward to our next year of sailing towards our ultimate destination of Greece.
